The Boy of Steel is an emotional story about how the North West Air Ambulance charity helped to quickly transport Fred after a life changing road accident.
The Mason family were on a family day out when an oil spillage on the M6 turned their life upside down. After spotting oil on the carriage, the driver pulled over to park safely on the hard shoulder, however in a devastating turn of events a second vehicle lost control, slipped on the oil and ploughed into their young son Fred. After a quick evaluation from a land ambulance, the North West Air Ambulance were called to the scene and transported Fred to Alder Hey in a matter of minutes. It was here that he earned the nickname ‘Boy of Steel’ as amazingly after just 6 weeks, Fred almost fully healed, was discharged from hospital. This is his story.
